Основное назначение датчика – обнаруживать края материалов как непрозрачных, так и прозрачных. Материал частично перекрывает ультразвуковой луч, за счёт этого датчик определяет смещение края материала относительно центра ультразвукового луча, и создаётся аналоговый сигнал на выходе датчика.

The main purpose of the sensor is to detect the edges of both opaque and transparent materials. The material partially overlaps the ultrasonic beam, due to this the sensor determines the displacement of the material relative to the center of the ultrasonic beam and an analog signal is created at the output of the sensor.
